Join us at our next meeting which will be held on Monday, December 19th at 7:45 at North High School's Little Theater
At our first Parents-for-Parents meeting this year we had many new faces and were thrilled to have parents from both the North and South sides of our district together in one room to share thoughts and garner advice from one another. We discussed many social issues ranging from cyber security to friends and parties to peer pressure and came up with some thoughts and possible guidelines regarding our children that you may be interested in reading about.
Always make sure parents will be home when your child is going to someone's house for a get together/party. Don't be embarrassed to get the phone number of the host/hostess and call to confirm that there will be parental supervision.
Encourage your child not to go to a party of an upperclassman and stay within their grade when at all possible.
Make sure you or one of your child's close friend's parents are local and available to pick the children up immediately if they call and need you.
Don't hesitate to be the "strict" parent. Your kids might not be happy about that now but in the future will love you for it.
While there are no "right" answers when it comes to the complicated world of being a parent of teenagers, having these discussions at Parents-for-Parents meetings enable us to share ideas in an informal, non-judgmental forum.
