Mrs. Monique Bloom has tendered her resignation from the Board, effective 9/20/2016. Here is an excerpt from her letter to Board President Barbara Berkowitz.
“Dear Barbara, It is with great sadness that I tender my resignation from the Great Neck Public Schools’ Board of Education as of September 20, 2016. My corporate travel commitments have become, at this point, completely overwhelming and do not leave me with enough time to properly execute my responsibilities as a BOE member in my opinion. As I do not foresee this situations’ potential improvement, I feel that I must resign my position so that the community might select someone who has more time flexibility allowing for the completion of the immense amounts of weekly reading and attendance at the many meetings a committed trustee should attend.”
Monique has been an extremely valuable member of our Board and was a vital part in the huge undertaking in the beginning of 2015 to select a new Superintendent. We thank her for her service and she will be missed!
The Board decided to conduct an election for a new Board trustee, thereby affording the community the opportunity to select the next trustee, who will then serve for the remainder of Monique Bloom’s seat, which expires in May 2019.
The procedures for those who would like to run are as follows:
Petition forms are to be obtained from the office of the District Clerk, Michele Domenick, in Mr. Powell’s office. She will elaborate on the requirements of those who sign petitions.
State law requires that Board members be citizens of the United States, be at least 18 years of age, and be able to read and write. Board members must also have been residents of the school district for at least one year prior to their election. All this is in accordance with State Law 2102.
Petitions are to be submitted NO LATER THAN 5pm on Monday, November 7th.
Then there will be a special district election conducted on Tuesday, December 6th, from 7AM to 10PM at the usual sites of EM Baker and SHS, and we will convene at Phipps at 10:30 that evening to officially receive and announce the results.
