Chairpersons: Julie Agris


This committee keeps the PTAs informed about proposed state and federal legislation which could affect education in the Great Neck Public Schools and recommends policy positions and appropriate action to UPTC when necessary.  In addition, it cooperates with other UPTC committees and PTAs to encourage favorable legislative action on behalf of the Great Neck School District.

3/9/16: Legislative Commitee update on Potential New ELA/Math Standards.


11/24/15:  Legislative Committee hosts NYS Education Forum.


1/13/14: The Legislative Committee continues to monitor information and changes coming from the Board of Regents and State Legislature. We are pleased that inBloom has been deferred. We are optimistic about Regent Tilles's new task force. And we continue to be in contact with parent leaders from other school districts across the region regarding developments there.


9/15/13: Among other issues this year, the Legislative Committee will continue to dialogue with our local and state officials regarding the impacts of unfunded state mandates, teacher performance ratings, the use of student tests as diagnostics versus punishments, and the aggregation of student data that may be a potential security risk.
